Scope and Contents

From the Collection:

Professional and personal correspondence, documents, writings, notes, research and teaching files, memorabilia, artwork, and blueprints by Samuel George Ellsworth (1926-1997).

This collection is divided into twenty series that reflect both Ellsworth's professional career and personal life. The first eight series reflect his work as a professor at Utah State University, membership and leadership in various historical associations, his professional writings, his work for his church, and his correspondence with colleagues. The next seven series reflect his personal life, including correspondence with his family and friends, personal documents, his involvement in an LDS mission, his teaching years at Virgin Valley High School in Nevada, his service as a chaplain for the United States Army during the Second World War, and artwork and blueprints he drew while in high school and community college. The organization of the personal papers and the separation of the three series of Mission, Bunkerville, and War Years reflect the way George Ellsworth originally arranged his collection. The next four series reflect Ellsworth's research in Mormon and Utah History. The twentieth series is of his family papers.

In addition to this manuscript collection, a separate photograph collection has also been created. Photographs that were donated with Ellsworth's papers have been included in that collection. These photographs can be found in P0025 in the Photographs Division of Special Collections and Archives. Microfilm was removed from the collection and added to existing microfilm holdings.
