Union Pacific Engine 119, 1869
Scope and Contents
Union Pacific Engine 119 on the "Big Trestle", east slope of the Promontory Summit, Utah. At extreme upper left can be seen the 2 parallel cuts made by Central Pacific Railroad and Union Pacific Railroad crews. This trestle was abandoned 1871 after Congress moved junction of Transcontinental Railroad to Ogden. Central Pacific Railroad cut filled with stone and used as "Big Grade" until abandonment of line in 1942. Original photograph by A.J. Russell, more writing on front of photograph.
