Biographical Note

In February 1972 the Bureau of Reclamation began construction on the Teton Dam, located near St. Anthony and Rexburg, Idaho, to provide local farmers with a constant supply of irrigation water. The dam was still under construction on June 5, 1976, when two electrical generating units were scheduled for testing. Tragically, the dam failed that day and hundreds of thousands of acre-feet of water were discharged, killing 11 people and causing millions of dollars of property damage.>
