Austin Fife photograph collection,
Scope and Contents
This collection consists of three albums with images collected and taken by folklorists Alta and Austin Fife. The first album (boxes 1 and 2) depicts a "Mormon Pilgrimage" taken by the Fifes to historical sites pertinent to the history of the LDS Church both in the east and Midwest as well as in Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Nebraska, and Arizona. The second album (box 3) consists of photographs of Mormon material culture such as fences and gravestones. The last album (box 4) consists of photographs of prominent folklorists and some family images.
The collection is comprised of approximately 359 black-and-white and color prints, 30.5 cm. x 24.5 cm. and smaller. 5:68-5:105 are Slides. Immediate Source of Acquisition
Donation from Austin Fife in 1990. These photographs were taken and collected by renowned folklorist Austin Fife (with the assistance of his wife Alta Fife) and donated to the division by the Fifes in 1990.
