Biographical Note

Axel Ludvik Johnson was born near Oslo, Norway in the latter part of the nineteenth-century. Prior to the year 1900 Axel married Bolette Pederson and they later had seven children together.

Between 1913 and 1915 the Axel Johnson family became acquainted with Charles Peterson of Preston, Idaho who was serving in Norway as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. After joining the LDS Church, Axel immigrated to the United States in 1915 and took up residence in Preston, Idaho. That same year Axel opened a blacksmithing and automobile repair shop in Preston. By 1917 Axel had saved enough money to purchase the passage fair so his wife and remaining children could travel to Preston. Axel Johnson lived and operated this blacksmithing shop in Preston until his death in 1955.
