U.S.G.S. Survey Negatives photograph collection
Scope and Contents
The U.S.G.S. Survey Negatives consist of 89 images from the states of California, Nevada, Utah, and Washington D.C. Included are images of Rhyolite, Nevada, Mount Shasta in California, and mule teams in Nevada. Also included are images of the Native American ceremony depicts the White Deer Skin Dance of the Hoopa Indians. The records of this special ceremony are scarce, though it is known that the skin of white deer was thought to be very valuable and served as a protective object for the owner and their family. The deer skin was often handed down from generation to generation as an heirloom.

Biographical Note
Lewis Franklin Biggs performed topographical surveys for the U.S.G.S. in Arizona, California, Idaho, Oregon, Utah, and Wyoming from 1904-1912. These surveys helped create maps and permanent benchmarks, which were important aids for the U.S. Military.

Abstract
This collection consists of 89 photograph negatives from Lewis Franklin Biggs, taken during a survey conducted by the United States Geological Survey between 1904-1912 in the states of California, Nevada, Utah, and Washington D.C.
