Biographical Note

Floyd Thomas Morgan was born on March 12, 1910, in Weston, Idaho. He graduated from Weston High School as valedictorian and attended Rick’s College before enrolling at Utah State University. After completing a major in speech and drama in 1934, he worked teaching speech at the University, a job that developed into his employment as both a professor and an active director of theatre. Morgan later received a master’s degree at the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin before serving as the head of USU’s Theatre Arts Department until 1975, when he retired after 47 years. In recognition of his involvement and achievement with the University, the theater in the Chase Fine Arts Center was named the “Floyd Thomas Morgan Theatre” in 1981. In 1982 Morgan, along with his wife Edith and two friends, co-founded The Valley Players community theater group in Logan, Utah. Morgan spent much of his personal time designing and building set props, reading, learning guitar, and gardening. He died on August 4, 2003.
