Association of Newspaper Classified Advertising Managers (ANCAM) records
Scope and Contents
The ANCAM Convention and Board Meeting Records Section is composed of transcripts and proceedings from annual conferences and board meetings held by the association as early as 1921. Also included in this section are photographs of members and conference events.
The ANCAM Publication section contains magazines and newsletters published or sponsored by the Association of Newspaper Classified Advertising Managers. One magazine is the Classified Journal, which was succeeded by ANCAM Exchanges. These news bulletins include examples of effective advertising, trends and surveys related to classified advertising, highlights of speeches from annual conventions, articles about advertising, and other information relevant to ANCAM’s membership. Among the other materials in this section are surveys, reports, and best practices targeted at classified advertisers.
Last is a media section, which contains VHS recordings of ANCAM commercials and cassette tapes and microfilm related to the group’s annual conferences.

Biographical Note
The Association of Newspaper Classified Advertising Managers began in 1920 when representatives from more than 30 newspapers met with the goal to create an organization that would standardize and establish ethical and practical rules in the business of classified advertising. Among the main issues were rates, revenue, censorship, standardization, and efficiency.
On June 1, 1992, ANCAM merged with six other newspaper industry associations to form the Newspaper Association of America, a nonprofit organization that now represents 2,000 daily newspapers, non-dailies, other print publications, and online products.
