This collection contains Taylor’s collected material while in the Utah House of Representatives including newspaper articles with notes written in margins, correspondence, statistical reports (taxes, demographics, etc), magazines, and other related materials.

Biographical Note
Samuel S. Taylor was born June 3, 1914, to Vencinzina and Biagio Cusmano in Passaic, New Jersey. In 1948 he decided to move to California and on the way there, ran out of gas in Utah. He fell in love with Salt Lake City and stayed for over fifty years. He started the Taylor Hearing Service in 1952. He was elected to the Utah House of Representatives in 1970 and served there until 1986. While in the legislature, he passed the Transit Act in 1973 that started the Utah Transit Authority.

Abstract
The collection contains materials related to the Samuel Taylor's political service in the Utah House of Representatives, particularly in the area of no-fare mass transportation.
Arrangement
This collection is arranged into five series:
I. Personal/biographical: materials representing his life as a whole. Includes photographs, music and poems he wrote, letters to the editor, campaign materials, assorted notes, and news articles about or mentioning him.
II. Correspondence: written by or received by him, including letters with his government office letterhead. In chronological order.
III. Legislative materials: bills he sponsored, or ones he annotated, in chronological order. Also includes materials related to legislative committee assignments.
IV. Mass transit materials: articles, reports, publications, research. Further divided into sub-series relating to Utah Transit Authority (UTA), mass transit studies in general, and materials relating to other large cities' mass transit programs.
V. Subject files and assorted materials: notes, research, limited correspondence, and news articles relating to various other subjects.
Immediate Source of Acquisition
This collection was donated to USU Special Collections and Archives in 1987 by Samuel Taylor.

Processed in May of 2012, reprocessed in 2024 to further arrange/describe, and to deaccession the large amount of duplicate material
